Sinan Road in Shanghai at 2 a.m. in 2001, when traffic and pedestrian activity had largely disappeared. Streetlights trace the curve of the road, illuminating trees, sidewalks, and the façades of older residences.

Known for its historic architecture and modest scale, Sinan Road offers a striking contrast to Shanghai’s commercial thoroughfares. At this late hour, the street becomes a contemplative setting, where light, shadow, and emptiness reveal a quieter rhythm beneath the city’s daytime activity.
